The CIAA Tournament will take place Feb. 23-28, 2015
From Feb. 23 to 28, men’s and women’s teams from all 12 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association schools will take part in the conference’s annual basketball tournament to determine who advances to the NCAA Division II tourney.
Tickets for the tourney, expected to draw 150,000 fans to Time Warner Cable Arena by the time it’s completed, are available on the CIAA website, www.theciaa.com, and start at $50 for all sessions.
Basketball fans also won’t want to miss the IAA Fan Experience, a free, three-day event in the Charlotte Convention Center.
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) is based in Hampton, Va., and is one of America’s oldest athletic conferences. Founded in 1912, the conference is home to 12 colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina, and holds 16 championships in men’s and women’s sports. Of the 156 championships the CIAA sponsors, the event that generates the most buzz for fans of collegiate athletics and has become the CIAA brand is the annual CIAA Tournament—played for the 10th year now in Charlotte.
The CIAA is a crown jewel within college sports. The annual men’s and women’s basketball tournament is described as the quintessential cultural experience and known as one of the largest and most successful basketball tournaments in the United States. The CIAA Tournament is the third largest behind the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Big Ten Conference amongst all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournaments. Moreover, the CIAA tournament is also one of a handful of basketball tournaments in the nation that features men’s and women’s competitions in the same facility, during the same week.
