Just past the Loop and down­town is Hyde Park and Ken­wood, the later now fa­mous for be­ing for­mer Pres­i­dent Barack

Obama’s long­time res­i­dence. It’s also home to the Univer­sity of Chicago, where Frank Lloyd Wright’s famed Ro­bie House is lo­cated. Hyde Park’s cul­tural trea­sures in­clude the Museum of Science and In­dus­try and the DuSable Museum of African Amer­i­can His­tory. The area’s 53rd Street is a ma­jor com­mer­cial shop­ping strip with lo­cally owned stores and art gal­leries. The more es­tab­lished 57th Street fea­tures lots of in­de­pen­dent book­stores and cof­fee shops, while 55th Street has eth­nic restau­rants and friendly pubs. The ad­ja­cent his­toric Ken­wood area be­tween 47th and 51st streets has the largest con­cen­tra­tion of man­sions in the city, de­signed by pres­ti­gious ar­chi­tects in­clud­ing Wright.
