ASK THE EXPERT

Q: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT CHICAGO?

A: The fact that no matter how long you’ve visited here, the city always finds ways to surprise you. Even walking around different neighborhoods will offer experiences that can’t be predicted or planned, like new street art or a musician playing on the corner. For that reason, I always try to encourage my guests to leave some time in their schedule that isn’t planned to experience this for themselves.

Q: WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO ENJOY CHICAGO DURING THE HOLIDAYS?

A: I just love this time of year. There are so many holiday activities to enjoy. Christkindlmarket at Daley Plaza is a must with delicious German food, hot mulled wine served in souvenir mugs as well as artisan gifts. After, head to State Street to view the holiday windows at Macy’s and continue to Millennium Park to see the official city tree and lights. I also love Christmas around the World at the Museum of Science & Industry, ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo and ice skating at the Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon. To cap off a trip during the holiday season, I recommend seeing a show like The Joffrey Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” or “A Christmas Carol” at the Goodman Theatre.

Q: WHAT’S NEW AT THE RITZ-CARLTON, CHICAGO?

A: There are special offerings this season, including Holiday Afternoon Tea at our restaurant, Torali. On Christmas Day, we will also have a special buffet brunch with many food stations and a live jazz trio. On New Year’s Eve, our Clicquot in the Snow party will feature music in our café, which will be transformed into a Veuve Clicquot lounge.

I just love this time of year. There are so many holiday activities to enjoy.
