If ev­ery­thing re­ally is big­ger in Texas, then the end­less ar­ray of fried food op­tions dur­ing the State Fair should come as no sur­prise. Car­ni­val faves like caramel ap­ples and fun­nel cakes are avail­able ev­ery­where, but lo­cals will go straight for the award-win­ning eats from the an­nual fried food con­test (two win­ners take home the brag­ging rights for ei­ther “Best Taste” or “Most Cre­ative”). Culi­nary en­thu­si­asts can en­joy cook­ing demos by lo­cal chefs, as well as the Mag­no­lia Beer Gar­den and State Fair Wine Gar­den show­cas­ing dozens of Texas winer­ies. This year, two new tree­shaded din­ing des­ti­na­tions will de­light fair-go­ing food­ies: “Bite­sand-flights” con­cept Trio on the Green and Fi­esta Grande, which fea­tures a cantina-style pa­tio.
