Toast to the Old Times
Florida’s oldest bar is arguably
The Palace Saloon, dating back to 1903. At that time, Fernandina, a major shipping port, was over-run by bawdy sailors looking for a good time. The Palace became an upscale alternative for ship captains, officers and yachters. A glass of beer was 5 cents and a bottle of whiskey was $1.25. Today, its tile mosaic floor, embossed tin ceiling and elegant mahogany and oak bar remain, but you’ll have to pay more than a nickel for your drink.
