Com­mis­soned by the state govern­ment of Ver­acruz, Mex­ico (where ac­tress Selma Hayek was born) Viva Ver­acruz takes a dra­matic look at the folk­lore, songs and dance of the re­gion through a vi­brant dis­play of pageantry. Di­vided into 12 chore­ographed dance num­bers, the show is com­posed of a se­ries of vi­gnettes, in­ter­laced in a rich, dy­namic and eclec­tic pro­gram. The mu­sic is a com­bi­na­tion of orig­i­nal com­po­si­tions and tra­di­tional songs such as the world-fa­mous “La Bamba.” Salsa, Dan­zon, con­tem­po­rary dance and Jaro­cho, the orig­i­nal Ver­acruz dance, con­front each other, re­sult­ing in a beau­ti­ful com­bi­na­tion of cul­tures and tra­di­tions. It’s pro­duced by renowned Mex­i­can pro­ducer Luis De Llano-Stevens and long-time pro­ducer Alex Esqueda.
