Celebrating the story of women artists, their activism and artistic achievements, “Painting Women” tells a powerful story of how women artists developed in an era when they were yet to be fully recognized. The collection showcases 34 paintings spanning 90 years, and is arranged thematically from the 1870s, the era when fine-arts training programs first became available to women, to the mid-20th century. See it while you can; the exhibit closes at the end of this month. Bellagio, (702) 693-7871

Entirely self-taught, it was a gift of a Kodak Brownie camera on his eighth birthday that spurred Lik’s love of photography. The Australian was drawn to vast, open spaces, and in the early 2000s visited the United States to photograph all 50 states; his book “The Spirit of America” chronicles that journey. He’s since been named a “Master Photographer” by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and the Professional Photographers of America.
