The is­land’s only com­mer­cial pro­ducer of wines is lo­cated on the fer­tile slopes of Haleakalā.

Maui’s rep­u­ta­tion as one of the world’s most de­sir­able travel des­ti­na­tions owes much of its ac­claim to Mount Haleakalā. Ev­ery sun­rise viewed from its 10,000-foot sum­mit is a kalei­do­scopic pic­ture of bril­liance (pages 16-17). Be­yond its in­her­ent beauty, there are other rea­sons that Maui ranks among the best places to visit. For gour­mands, epi­curean events give rea­son to fly to the Val­ley Isle. Ev­ery year, a con­tin­gent of na­tional and in­ter­na­tional chefs de­scend on our shores to par­tic­i­pate in such fes­ti­vals as Ka­palua Food & Wine and Taste of Wailea (pages 14-15). And you can’t leave the is­land with­out im­bib­ing a craft cock­tail or try­ing some kom­bucha, a fer­mented ef­fer­ves­cent tea (page 19).
