Gus­tav Klimt’s shim­mer­ing “Por­trait of Adele Bloch- Bauer I” from 1907 (pic­tured)— of­ten re­ferred to as “The Woman in Gold” be­cause of the lav­ish ap­pli­ca­tion of gold and sil­ver leaf to the can­vas—is the crown jewel of the per­ma­nent col­lec­tion of the Neue Ga­lerie New York (p. 45) and a high­light of the museum’s cur­rent ex­hi­bi­tion, “Gus­tav Klimt and Egon Schiele: 1918 Cen­te­nary,” on view thru Sept. 4, which marks the 100th an­niver­sary of the deaths of two of Aus­tria’s great­est artists.
