The theme parks are hot and crowded, but we share our ad­vice for mak­ing your trip mem­o­rable, not mis­er­able.

A South­erner born and raised, I’ve had more than my share of hot summers. But the hottest I’ve ever been in my life was at Dis­ney’s An­i­mal King­dom. It was 3 pm in Au­gust on the black-as­phalt park­ing lot, my kids were whin­ing for wa­ter, and I had no idea where I parked my car. But don’t worry—I will not let this hap­pen to you. Af­ter three sizzling hot summers at Or­lando’s theme parks with the kids in tow, I’ve learned a les­son or two. Here are some of my top tips for ris­ing above Or­lando’s heat and hu­mid­ity and mak­ing sure every­one is cool, com­fort­able and hav­ing the time of their lives.
