Open-air Affairs

Where Philadelphia - - WHERE NOW PHILADELPHIA -

Bring a bottle of pinot noir and some snacks to enjoy picnic-style on the lawn at The Mann on June 24, when members of The Philadelphia Orchestra enhance an open-air screening of Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” by playing Howard Shore’s score live on-site.

This is just one of the very many, very cool live music offerings hosted by The Mann during summer months. Its annual festival, this year themed “New Frontiers: Launch, Explore, Discover” links science and the arts with a series of performances on and off-site, including Star Rhapsody at The Fels Planetarium at The Franklin Institute June 6-7.

Main stage talent runs the gamut from Bell Biv DeVoe June 1, to a sold- out twofer from Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds June 2-3, to Sigur Rós June 16 and Steve Miller Band June 27. Fairmount Park, 5201 Parkside Ave.
