Where Phoenix - - THE GUIDE NAVIGATE -

Prehistoric Sinagua people are said to have begun constructing the five-story, 20-room cliffside residence called Montezuma Castle in the 12th century; the ruins they left behind, in a recess 100 feet above ground, are still impressive by 21st-century standards. After self-guided gazing from a paved path, get back in the car and drive to the geologic and cultural curiosity of nearby Montezuma Well. The natural well has roots in the ancient Lake Verde, is neighbored by additional cliffside residences, and supports more than 100 kinds of invertebrates—four of which are found nowhere else in the world.
