SLAM hosts an ex­tra­or­di­nary and end­lessly en­ter­tain­ing ex­hibit of more than 100 works by artists out­side the main­stream art es­tab­lish­ment in Self-Taught Ge­nius: Trea­sures from the Amer­i­can Folk Art Mu­seum, on view through Septem­ber 11. Framed within the con­text of seven per­spec­tives from which peo­ple are com­pelled to cre­ate, the ex­hibit show­cases the deep need for ex­pres­sion and the ex­cep­tional ex­am­ples of vis­ual state­ments made by in­di­vid­u­als whose vi­sion comes en­tirely from within.
