The hand­some brick home on Sap­ping­ton Rd., built in 1808 by the son of Ge­orge Wash­ing­ton’s body­guard, is an out­stand­ing ex­am­ple of Fed­eral ar­chi­tec­ture, rare in Mis­souri. Judged to be the old­est brick home in St. Louis County, the home is on the Na­tional Reg­is­ter of His­toric Places and in­cludes the Li­brary of Amer­i­cana and Dec­o­ra­tive Arts, the Loft Gift Shop and The Barn restau­rant, serv­ing break­fast and lunch Tu-Su, din­ner Th-Sa. Open for tours W-F 11 am-2 pm; Sa by ap­point­ment. Ad­mis­sion is $5 for adults, $1 for chil­dren.
