Faith Kohler, direc­tor of 30 Sec­onds Away: Break­ing the Cy­cle — a doc­u­men­tary about chron­i­cally home­less Mil­wau­keeans — serves as the key­note speaker for Mercy Hous­ing Lake­front’s Live in Hope Re­cep­tion. Fol­low­ing the ad­dress, Kohler joins in a panel dis­cus­sion ex­plor­ing so­lu­tions to home­less­ness in Mil­wau­kee. Mayor Tom Barrett pro­vides open­ing re­marks at the event set for Nov. 2, 4–7 p.m. at the Mil­wau­kee Ath­letic Club, 758 N. Broad­way, Mil­wau­kee. of Mid­west En­vi­ron­men­tal Ad­vo­cates and Ge­orge Myer of the Wis­con­sin Wildlife Fed­er­a­tion for a dis­cus­sion on “Wis­con­sin’s chang­ing en­vi­ron­men­tal laws.” The talk takes place at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at Shore­wood Vil­lage Cen­ter, 3920 N. Mur­ray Ave., Shore­wood.

The Mil­wau­kee Metropoli­tan Com­mu­nity Church’s an­nual gala, A Night of Cabaret, takes place at 6 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Mar­cus Cen­ter Pav­il­ion, 929 N. Wa­ter St., Mil­wau­kee. The MCC is sell­ing tick­ets to the cel­e­bra­tion and seek­ing spon­sors.
