Baked Donuts with Cream Cheese Frost­ing

DONUTS 1 3/4 cups all-pur­pose flour 3/4 cup su­gar 1 1/2 tsp. bak­ing pow­der 1/4 tsp. bak­ing soda 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 cup but­ter­milk 1 1/2 Tbs. unsweet­ened co­coa pow­der 2 tsp. red liq­uid food col­or­ing

1 tsp. white vine­gar 1 egg 2 Tbs. un­salted but­ter, at room tem­per­a­ture 1 Tbs. oil 1 tsp. vanilla ex­tract CREAM CHEESE FROST­ING 2 oz. cream cheese, at room tem­per­a­ture

1 Tbs. un­salted but­ter, at room tem­per­a­ture 1/4 tsp. vanilla ex­tract Pinch of salt 3/4 cup con­fec­tion­ers’ su­gar 1 oz. white choco­late, melted, slightly cooled

Donuts: Set oven rack in cen­ter po­si­tion; pre­heat oven to 350°F. Coat 2 (6 cav­ity) donut pans with cook­ing spray. Whisk flour, su­gar, bak­ing pow­der, bak­ing soda and salt in bowl to com­bine. Stir but­ter­milk, co­coa, food col­or­ing and vine­gar to­gether in mea­sur­ing cup (make sure there are no lumps of co­coa). Whisk but­ter­milk mix­ture and egg, but­ter, oil and vanilla into flour mix­ture un­til com­bined. Fill cav­i­ties in donut pan about 1/2 full with bat­ter. Bake un­til donuts spring back when touched, 7-10 min­utes. Re­move from pan; cool on rack.

Frost­ing: Beat cream cheese, but­ter, vanilla and salt in large bowl with mixer un­til smooth. Grad­u­ally beat in con­fec­tion­ers’ su­gar. Add white choco­late; beat un­til blended. Spread frost­ing over tops of donuts. Makes 12 donuts.
