❑ ❑ ❑ ❑ ❑ Bake a batch of basler brun­sli (choco­late-almond cook­ies), a Swiss hol­i­day treat since the 16th cen­tury!

1 1/2 cups almond flour 1 cup gran­u­lated sugar 6 oz. bit­ter­sweet choco­late, coarsely chopped 1 tsp. ground cin­na­mon 1/2 tsp. ground cloves 2 egg whites 1/2 cup con­fec­tion­ers’ sugar In bowl, com­bine flour and gran­u­lated sugar. In food pro­ces­sor, grind choco­late to crumbly texture; add choco­late to flour mix­ture. Add cin­na­mon, cloves and egg whites; mix un­til com­bined. Chill dough 30 min­utes. Pre­heat oven to 350°F. Line bak­ing sheet with parch­ment pa­per. Sprin­kle con­fec­tion­ers’ sugar on sur­face. Roll out dough to 1/2" thick­ness on sugar; us­ing cookie cut­ters, cut out shapes. Trans­fer to bak­ing sheet. Re­duce heat to 325°F. Bake cook­ies 12-15 min­utes un­til slightly firm; do not over­bake. Cool 5-10 min­utes be­fore trans­fer­ring to rack. Cool com­pletely. Makes about 12 cook­ies.
