1 Make a last­ing mouth­wash!

Most of to­day’s over-the-counter mouth­washes rely on al­co­hol to freshen breath, which only works tem­po­rar­ily. For a rinse with real stay­ing power, sim­ply add six drops each of 100% pure ther­a­peu­tic-grade cin­na­mon, pep­per­mint and tea tree es­sen­tial oils to one cup of wa­ter. These ger­mi­ci­dal oils de­stroy mouth bac­te­ria on con­tact, ac­cord­ing to Den­tal Re­search Jour­nal. Just gar­gling with a few ta­ble­spoons of this mix­ture daily (shake first, then spit out the mouth­wash and rinse with wa­ter) can nix breath prob­lems in 72 hours, says study coau­thor Ratika Sharma, PH.D.

2 KO trou­ble with yo­gurt!

Eat­ing 6 oz. of unsweet­ened yo­gurt daily cuts bad breath 50% or more for 80% of women, re­search re­veals. The gen­tle, good-foryou pro­bi­otic bac­te­ria in yo­gurt crowd out the trou­ble­some mouth germs that pro­duce a “rot­ten egg” com­pound called hy­dro­gen sul­fide.

3 Chew seeds, not mints!

In­stead of breath mints, carry a small bot­tle of co­rian­der, car­damom, anise and/or fen­nel seeds in your purse and crunch a few when­ever your breath needs a boost.
