When Duke University researchers asked people with lower back pain to work on releasing anger toward a person who’d wronged them, they experienced a significant reduction in discomfort as a result! The reason? Upset feelings cause a reaction in the brain that heightens pain perception, while calm, peaceful feelings have an ache- easing effect!
