For years now, a San Francisco weightloss guru has used South American superfoods to stimulate rapid weight loss. Folks were so impressed, they voted Manuel Villacorta, M.S., R.D., the Bay Area’s best nutritionist five times. And that was before Villacorta, who was born in Peru, got the idea to incorporate nutrient-dense Latin favorites like avocado, corn and purple potatoes into a soup diet. How well does his new approach work? Women testing it for us shed up to 12 pounds and a whopping nine inches of belly fat in a single week! Villacorta says the results are actually better than liposuction. “Liposuction only removes fat under the skin’s surface. With my plan, you’re also reducing a deeper type of fat that triggers disease-promoting and weight-loss-blocking inflammation throughout the body,” he notes. “It’s much healthier weight loss overall— and it’s weight loss that’s far easier to sustain long-term.” Want to see for yourself? Here’s everything you need to know . . .

Getting started! ● What you eat

Sip a superfood breakfast smoothie, have healthy snacks and enjoy two hearty soup meals each day. Just dig in— and wait for the magic to happen!

● Why these soups work so well

Scientists say there’s something about the way soup solids are suspended in liquid that confuses our bodies, triggering a flood of “stop eating” hormones after we’ve consumed relatively few calories. And that’s any ordinary soup. “The soup ingredients I use are packed with nutrients proven to help you lose fat faster,” says Villacorta. In fact, studies show they contain compounds that speed metabolism up to 35%! (See “South American soup ingredients that slim,” right, for more.) Since most of Villacorta’s soups are puréed, we’re able to absorb more nutrients than we normally would, maximizing benefits dramatically.

● How they target your tummy

South American superfoods are packed with “prebiotic” fiber that feeds good bacteria in our digestive tracts. Villacorta says his plan provides enough prebiotics to help good bacteria crowd out bad bacteria “in as little as a week.” As bad bacteria dwindle, digestion improves and bloating disappears. On top of that, research shows that good bacteria quickly improve the body’s ability to control blood sugar; as blood sugar stabilizes, production of the belly-fattening hormone insulin plummets. Inflammation caused by high blood sugar also begins to subside. “There’s evidence that by reducing inflammation, we more readily let go of fat around the midsection,” adds Villacorta, author of Flat Belly 365, who has helped folks shed up to 185 pounds. “My soup fights fat while being simple and super-delicious!”

● Real-world wow!

“I’ve already made a double-batch of the Chicken Albondigas soup to enjoy this week. It’s that good! And the purple potato soup is tasty and gorgeous. I’ll definitely make it for guests!” raves California executive assistant Janet Livingston, 52, who used the menus, right, to drop nearly a size in week. Meanwhile, Juana Mattero, 47—who remembers starving on the Cabbage Soup Diet—was never hungry on Villacorta’s soup plan. “And I was surprised how manageable it felt even with my very busy schedule,” says the California mom, who rises at 3:30 a.m. to see her family off and make a two-hour commute. Better yet, “I lost 12 pounds! I had to weigh myself twice to believe it.” Juana also shrunk 25 inches in a week. “This soup diet really works!”
