MIDDLETOWN (AP) — A non-denominational minister from Rhode Island who was arrested on credit card fraud charges last month is facing additional theft allegations.

James Stern, 39, of Portsmouth, was arrested again last Tuesday and detained on $5,000 bail.

Stern, who has won awards as a wedding officiant, was charged last month with using a credit card reported stolen from a Newport hotel room by a guest at a wedding he officiated. Police said the new charges are related to thefts at the Newport County YMCA in Middletown and the Ocean Community YMCA in Westerly. Authorities say they found numerous gift cards, identification cards and bolt cutters in Stern’s vehicle.

Stern has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His lawyer, Craig Hein, declined to comment Saturday.
