We grill Monolith on its Scorpio ambitions

XBox: The Official Magazine (US) - - MIDDLE-EARTH: SHADOW OF WAR -

Monolith has a long history with the Xbox brand, as well a reputation for technical expertize. With that in mind, we quiz de Plater on the studio’s plans for a souped-up Scorpio version of the game, and his response is a little coy: “We have our own engine and we have our engine team, and they absolutely love making the game this fantastic. They love taking advantage of every bit of technical opportunity and power they possibly can.” Fortunately, when we put a similar question to Monolith’s studio head, Kevin Stephens, he’s less reserved in his response. “Absolutely. I mean, factually, I think it’ll be true what Microsoft says. I think it’ll be the best console you can buy. I think it’ll be super-powerful. We’re super-excited to be on Scorpio. HDR is awesome. 4K is awesome,” Stephens enthuses. “Microsoft’s right down the street,” he continues, referring to the fact that both companies have their headquarters in Seattle. “So we work really closely with Microsoft. We love Microsoft. It’s a great platform. I mean, we love Sony too. Don’t get me wrong. But Sony’s not right down the street. We’ve got Microsoft right there. We’re huge fans of them, and the platforms that they make. We’re going to make the best experience on all platforms. But because Scorpio is going to be the best platform when it launches, it’s going to be a great experience.”
