At its Founders’ Dinner, held during the 2014 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, the International SeaKeepers Society (ISKS) honored some of its Yachts of Discovery for contributions to oceanographic research, conservation and education. At the dinner, hosted by ISKS chairs Tom and Katia Bates at their waterfront home, ISKS Chairman Michael Moore and President Richard Snow recognized the yachts Shredder and and their owners for contributions to the group’s 2014 missions. During the year, ISKS facilitated three scientific expeditions and four outreach programs, and arranged for five SeaKeeper Drifters to be deployed to gather ocean data. Expedition yacht Copasetic hosted a genome-sequencing excursion, creating a custom mobile at-sea laboratory. Penny Mae hosted a weeklong tiger shark tagging expedition with assistance from LoJo. Fleet Miami’s Shredder hosted a three-day expedition monitoring the behaviors of various designs of ocean drifters. Yachts International is media partner to ISKS.
