Police ID victim, driver in fatal collision

Police have released the names of the victim and driver in a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred on Saturday.

The girl killed in the accident has been identified as 14-year-old Jazmine Reyes. Her age had previously been given as 15 years old. The driver of the black Dodge Avenger has been identified as George Espinoza-Teran, 21.

Police responded to a report of a vehicle that hit a pedestrian in the 2200 block of South Avenue C at about 7:05 p.m. The initial investigat­ion revealed that Espinoza-Teran was traveling north on Avenue C when he reportedly struck Reyes, who was crossing Avenue C with two friends.

An ambulance transporte­d Reyes to Yuma Regional Medical Center with lifethreat­ening injuries. She was later pronounced dead. The other two girls were not injured, police said.

The case continues to be under investigat­ion, according to Public Affairs Sgt. Lori Franklin of the Yuma Police Department. Police encourage anyone with any informatio­n about this case to call (928) 373-4700 or 78-CRIME at (928) 782-7463 to remain anonymous.
