Po­lice ID vic­tim, driver in fa­tal col­li­sion

Po­lice have re­leased the names of the vic­tim and driver in a fa­tal col­li­sion in­volv­ing a pedes­trian that oc­curred on Satur­day.

The girl killed in the ac­ci­dent has been iden­ti­fied as 14-year-old Jazmine Reyes. Her age had pre­vi­ously been given as 15 years old. The driver of the black Dodge Avenger has been iden­ti­fied as Ge­orge Espinoza-Teran, 21.

Po­lice re­sponded to a re­port of a ve­hi­cle that hit a pedes­trian in the 2200 block of South Av­enue C at about 7:05 p.m. The ini­tial in­ves­ti­ga­tion re­vealed that Espinoza-Teran was trav­el­ing north on Av­enue C when he re­port­edly struck Reyes, who was cross­ing Av­enue C with two friends.

An am­bu­lance trans­ported Reyes to Yuma Re­gional Med­i­cal Cen­ter with lifethreat­en­ing in­juries. She was later pro­nounced dead. The other two girls were not in­jured, po­lice said.
