Yuma Sun

First Take

In the summer of 1978 one of the most gruesome events ever — at the time — held Yuma and the state in a grip of terror.

That was when the “Tison Gang” tore across central and southwest Arizona and among other acts, murdered a Yuma Marine and his family in the desert north of Yuma.

While the gang was at large, people in Yuma and the county lived in fear of not knowing where these men — Gary Tison, Randy Greenawalt and Tison’s three sons — might show up next.

Eventually, a shootout with deputies near Casa Grande left one of Tison’s sons dead while two others along with Greenawalt were captured. Gary Tison was found dead 11 days later in the desert.

Now, I see there is a new movie out, “Last Rampage: The Escape of Gary Tison.”

My only thoughts are, why does Hollywood do this and who cares?

And my new fear is, the next movie Hollywood will produce is, “Terror in Las Vegas: The Stephen Paddock Story.”

I pray not.
