Yuma agents arrest 9, seize $208K in pot
Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested nine illegal entrants Tuesday night who were allegedly trying to smuggle more than 400 pounds of marijuana into the country.
According to a news release issued by the Yuma Sector Public Affairs Office, agents working in the desert west of Gila Bend found footprints leading north from the border and began to follow them.
When agents caught up, it turned out to be a group of suspected drug smugglers who were allegedly carrying makeshift backpacks filled with marijuana.
Agents seized the drugs, which were valued at more than $208,000, and arrested the individuals on suspicion of narcotics smuggling.
All subjects and drugs are being processed per Yuma Sector guidelines.
