San Pasqual football rolls in season finale

The San Pasqual football team closed its season on a high note Thursday night at home, winning 64-12 over Baboquivar­i.

It was senior night for the Warriors, and all three of their seniors had big games. Victor Alvarez completed 6 of 10 passes for 105 yards and three touchdowns, to go along with five rushes for 95 yards and one score. Frankie Rodriguez threw also threw for 105 yards and two scores, and had eight tackles on defense. Josiah Montague had two receptions for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

Also for the Warriors, Josh White had a 63-yard touchdown run and four receptions for 68 yards and two scores.

San Pasqual finishes the season with a 2-6 record overall.

JUCO WOMEN’S SOCCER AWC 2, Scottsdale 1

The No. 14 Arizona Western women’s soccer team won at Scottsdale, 2-1, thanks to two goals by Cinthya Samaniego on Thursday.

Samaniego scored in the 20th and 57th minutes, and both goals were assisted by Karla Navarro. Scottsdale (8-7-2 overall, 8-7-2 ACCAC) equalized 10 minutes into the second half, but Samaniego’s answer came only two minutes later for AWC (12-2-3, 12-2-3 ACCAC). The Matadors had 23 shots, compared to eight for the Artichokes. AWC hosts Paradise Valley on Saturday at noon.

JUCO MEN’S SOCCER Scottsdale 2, AWC 0

The Artichokes have the Matadors’ number. Despite the difference in records this season — 11-3-3 for No. 9 AWC and 6-9-2 for Scottsdale — it is the Artichokes who wind up with the season sweep of the Matadors. Scottsdale is responsibl­e for two-thirds of AWC’s losses. The Mats’ other loss was in their last game, a 3-1 defeat against Phoenix.

JJ Nash scored in the 30th minute and Chris Boyle made it 2-0 in the 68th for Scottsdale. AWC had more shots in the game, with 13 against 10.

AWC is at home Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Paradise Valley.
