San Pasqual foot­ball rolls in sea­son fi­nale

The San Pasqual foot­ball team closed its sea­son on a high note Thurs­day night at home, win­ning 64-12 over Babo­quiv­ari.

It was se­nior night for the War­riors, and all three of their se­niors had big games. Vic­tor Al­varez com­pleted 6 of 10 passes for 105 yards and three touch­downs, to go along with five rushes for 95 yards and one score. Frankie Ro­driguez threw also threw for 105 yards and two scores, and had eight tack­les on de­fense. Josiah Mon­tague had two re­cep­tions for 88 yards and two touch­downs.

Also for the War­riors, Josh White had a 63-yard touch­down run and four re­cep­tions for 68 yards and two scores.

San Pasqual fin­ishes the sea­son with a 2-6 record over­all.

JUCO WOMEN’S SOC­CER AWC 2, Scotts­dale 1

The No. 14 Ari­zona Western women’s soc­cer team won at Scotts­dale, 2-1, thanks to two goals by Cinthya Sa­maniego on Thurs­day.

Sa­maniego scored in the 20th and 57th min­utes, and both goals were as­sisted by Karla Navarro. Scotts­dale (8-7-2 over­all, 8-7-2 ACCAC) equal­ized 10 min­utes into the sec­ond half, but Sa­maniego’s an­swer came only two min­utes later for AWC (12-2-3, 12-2-3 ACCAC). The Mata­dors had 23 shots, com­pared to eight for the Ar­ti­chokes. AWC hosts Par­adise Val­ley on Satur­day at noon.

JUCO MEN’S SOC­CER Scotts­dale 2, AWC 0

The Ar­ti­chokes have the Mata­dors’ num­ber. De­spite the dif­fer­ence in records this sea­son — 11-3-3 for No. 9 AWC and 6-9-2 for Scotts­dale — it is the Ar­ti­chokes who wind up with the sea­son sweep of the Mata­dors. Scotts­dale is re­spon­si­ble for two-thirds of AWC’s losses. The Mats’ other loss was in their last game, a 3-1 de­feat against Phoenix.

JJ Nash scored in the 30th minute and Chris Boyle made it 2-0 in the 68th for Scotts­dale. AWC had more shots in the game, with 13 against 10.

AWC is at home Satur­day at 2:30 p.m. against Par­adise Val­ley.
