Crane board to hear up­date on emer­gency plans

The Crane School District gov­ern­ing board will hear an up­date on the district’s emer­gency plans at its Tues­day meet­ing.

The meet­ing will start at 5 p.m. Tues­day at the board­room at the Crane District Ser­vices Cen­ter, 930 Av­enue C.

The su­per­in­ten­dent is re­quired to present the emer­gency plan an­nu­ally, ac­cord­ing to doc­u­ments pre­sented with the board’s agenda. The board will not be tak­ing ac­tion on the plan, as it is only an in­for­ma­tive pre­sen­ta­tion.

The board re­serves the right to move into ex­ec­u­tive ses­sion, un­der ARS 38431.03(A)(3), which would not be open to the pub­lic, to re­ceive le­gal ad­vice from its at­tor­ney on any mat­ter listed on the agenda. Board mem­bers may also at­tend the meet­ing by con­fer­ence call.

The Crane Mid­dle School Lego Team, un­der the di­rec­tion of Katie Kaste, will present to the board some of the ac­tiv­i­ties and highlights from their ex­pe­ri­ences in the pro­gram. Their next com­pe­ti­tion is in De­cem­ber.

Un­der its con­sent agenda, the board may also ap­prove a $54,373.66 pur­chase from Mil­len­niom In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy LLC for an­tivirus li­cense, email se­cu­rity li­cense, and fire­wall sup­port. The board may also of­fer and ex­tend a con­tract to QCM Tech­nolo­gies, Inc. for se­cu­rity ap­pli­ances, with an op­tion to ex­tend the con­tract into the next school year.

The board may take ac­tion on tem­po­rar­ily sus­pend­ing pol­icy CBI (Eval­u­a­tion of Su­per­in­ten­dent) un­til June 2018. The pol­icy spec­i­fies that the an­nual eval­u­a­tion of the su­per­in­ten­dent be con­ducted on Dec. 15.

How­ever, Su­per­in­ten­dent Lau­rie Do­er­ing did not of­fi­cially be­gin in her role un­til June 1, af­ter be­ing named to re­place Bob Klee, who re­tired. Board mem­bers “be­lieve it is more log­i­cal and ap­pro­pri­ate to con­duct the Su­per­in­ten­dent’s an­nual eval­u­a­tion in May to­ward the end of the school year,” ac­cord­ing to agenda ma­te­ri­als. An­other pol­icy, BGF, al­lows the board to tem­po­rar­ily make this de­ci­sion.

In­stead, staff are rec­om­mend­ing that the board sched­ule an ex­ec­u­tive ses­sion for 4 p.m Dec. 12 to re­view the su­per­in­ten­dent’s per­for­mance mat­ters.

A copy of the agenda back­ground ma­te­rial pro­vided to board mem­bers (with the ex­cep­tion of ma­te­rial re­lat­ing to pos­si­ble ex­ec­u­tive ses­sions) is avail­able for pub­lic in­spec­tion at the District Of­fice, 4250 W. 16th St. A copy of the board packet is avail­able for in­spec­tion at the desk of the gov­ern­ing board sec­re­tary dur­ing district busi­ness hours 24 hours prior to the day of the meet­ing.
