Crane board to hear update on emergency plans
The Crane School District governing board will hear an update on the district’s emergency plans at its Tuesday meeting.
The meeting will start at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the boardroom at the Crane District Services Center, 930 Avenue C.
The superintendent is required to present the emergency plan annually, according to documents presented with the board’s agenda. The board will not be taking action on the plan, as it is only an informative presentation.
The board reserves the right to move into executive session, under ARS 38431.03(A)(3), which would not be open to the public, to receive legal advice from its attorney on any matter listed on the agenda. Board members may also attend the meeting by conference call.
The Crane Middle School Lego Team, under the direction of Katie Kaste, will present to the board some of the activities and highlights from their experiences in the program. Their next competition is in December.
Under its consent agenda, the board may also approve a $54,373.66 purchase from Millenniom Information Technology LLC for antivirus license, email security license, and firewall support. The board may also offer and extend a contract to QCM Technologies, Inc. for security appliances, with an option to extend the contract into the next school year.
The board may take action on temporarily suspending policy CBI (Evaluation of Superintendent) until June 2018. The policy specifies that the annual evaluation of the superintendent be conducted on Dec. 15.
However, Superintendent Laurie Doering did not officially begin in her role until June 1, after being named to replace Bob Klee, who retired. Board members “believe it is more logical and appropriate to conduct the Superintendent’s annual evaluation in May toward the end of the school year,” according to agenda materials. Another policy, BGF, allows the board to temporarily make this decision.
Instead, staff are recommending that the board schedule an executive session for 4 p.m Dec. 12 to review the superintendent’s performance matters.
A copy of the agenda background material provided to board members (with the exception of material relating to possible executive sessions) is available for public inspection at the District Office, 4250 W. 16th St. A copy of the board packet is available for inspection at the desk of the governing board secretary during district business hours 24 hours prior to the day of the meeting.
