Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two U.S. citizens late Saturday night near Wellton, due to the pair being convicted felons in possession of a weapon.

According to a news release issued by the Yuma Sector Public Affairs Office, when agents conducted an immigration stop just north of Old Highway 80, they encountered a Wellton couple in a rented Ford Fiesta.

A records check made during the traffic stop revealed that the 50-year-old male driver, as well as his 45-year-old female passenger were both convicted felons.

Agents also discovered the couple was in possession of a loaded .38-caliber revolver.

The couple, weapon and vehicle were all processed in accordance with Yuma Sector guidelines.
