I read where the Arizona Western College baseball program is going to have a “fall prospect” camp for anyone interested in playing for the Matadors in 2018.
I was intrigued. I mean, I might be a little on the over-the-hill side, but I absolutely love baseball, can still throw and catch, and swing a bat.
So as you can see, my competitive hormones took over where I normally rely on my common sense hormones to make me face reality.
Then it occurred to me that my speed isn’t what it used to be, although “what it used to be” was nothing special either, but I did stretch a double into a triple once during a men’s slowpitch softball game. Just saying.
But I still have my glove, although I haven’t kept it oiled, as Billy Bob Thornton, in his role as manager Morris Buttermaker in the “Bad News Bears,” instructed Toby Whitewood to do regularly.
Then I read, “Eligible players must be graduates from 2018-2021.”
Damn! Guess I’m not a prospect after all.
