April 28, 1933 - November 9, 2017 Jerry H. Lindsey, husband of Sondra Lindsey, passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 9, 2017. He was born in Anson, Texas on April 28, 1933 to Lester and Della Lindsey. He moved to Shallowater, Texas in 1938 where he received his education. He joined the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1951, and went on Active Duty in February, 1953. He was aboard the North Hampton 6th Fleet Flag Ship for eighteen months, most of the time in the Mediterranean, working for the Executive Officer, and six months as the Chaplain’s Assistant. Being a farmer’s son, he learned how to put in a good day’s work and enjoy it. He returned to the states, and met a little doll, named Sondra Gean Baucum. They were married sixteen months later. Jerry was a farmer for ten years in Shallowater, Texas. In 1966, they moved to the Yuma, Arizona area, with his family, and homesteaded a 160acre parcel of farm land in the Wellton-Mohawk farming community. When Jerry wasn’t farming, him and Sondra loved attending their children’s school activities, as they were a close-knit family. Prior to retiring in 2012, Jerry was a commercial farm and land real estate broker for 35 years. Jerry’s final words: “Sondra and family will meet with me again when we all get to Heaven.” Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Sondra, his three children; Lisa Lindsey, Barry Lindsey (Jackie Parker), and Pam (Ron) Pena; grandchildren Jason and Joshua Pena, Matt Lindsey, Ashley (John) Gilvin, and great grandchildren; Arthur and Charline Gilvin. He has numerous nieces and nephews, two sister-in laws; Eugenia Lindsey, and Edie Lindsey, and a nephew; Mike Lindsey, who was like a brother to him. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Della Lindsey, brothers; Kenneth Lindsey, L.W. Lindsey, Larry Lindsey, and nephew, Sam Lindsey. Our family would like to thank Hospice Compassus for their compassio nate care they provided Dad, and our entire family. Jerry’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 1:00 PM, at Morningside Baptist Church, 2900 S. 8th Avenue Yuma, Arizona 85364. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to one of Jerry’s favorite charities; the Humane Society of Yuma, The Salvation Army, or Alzheimer’s Association-Desert Southwest Chapter.
