First Take

I saw a recipe online this week for DIY Pumpkin Guts Slime. The concoction calls for glue, water, baking soda and contact solution — so far, typical slime. Then, it adds in pumpkin seeds and guts.

Let’s pause right there for a moment.

Pumpkin guts are essentially slime on their own. I’ve seen kids who love slime be repelled by the sensation of scooping out a pumpkin on Halloween.

I have to wonder though —would it improve the way pumpkin guts feel to turn it into actual slime, or would the sensation be worse?

Slime has been the “go-to” craft project for kids all over the place the last couple of years. I’m perpetually amazed by all the recipes out there online, and the kits I see in stores everywhere.

But pumpkin slime? I can’t help but think it’s taking two crazes — the love of pumpkin and the love of slime — just a bit too far!
