Estrella Foothills takes down Crims

Yuma High suf­fered its sec­ond straight 4A South­west re­gion de­feat Fri­day night at Estrella Foothills, fall­ing 57-25 to the Wolves.

Se­nior run­ning back Bryan Escamilla car­ried 22 times for 151 yards and two touch­downs, while se­nior quar­ter­back Thorne Spencer com­pleted 9 of 19 passes for 76 yards and one touch­down (11 yards to sopho­more re­ceiver Alex Mosqueda).

Ju­nior run­ning back Azral Gon­za­lez scored the other touch­down for the Crim­i­nals on a 1-yard run.

Coach Curt We­ber said the game got away from Yuma High (2-6 AIA, 1-3 re­gion) in the sec­ond quar­ter.

EF: 4-4 AIA, 2-0 re­gion YHS: 2-6 AIA, 1-3 re­gion

to 4-4 AIA and 2-0 re­gion with the win, and will host Gila Ridge next week in the de facto re­gion cham­pi­onship game.

“We did some good things,” We­ber said. “That’s go­ing to be a good game be­tween them and Gila Ridge.”

The Crim­i­nals close the sea­son out with in-town free­dom games against Ci­bola next week and Kofa the next.
