“Defensively they’ll hit you. They come flying up and they have some players in the secondary that want to hit you. The linebacker number 3 (Thomas) is really good and so is 42 (Woo).”
Pima has used a couple of quarterbacks this season, but freshman Brooks
Ringer has gotten most of the reps. He has 1627 yards with 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Most of the damage has come through the air with the Aztec’s leading rusher only having 327 yards this season.
Once the Mats fell out of the league title race Minnick said that he wanted to start mixing different players in on the field. Injuries have limited the scope
of the late-season experiment, but he said some of the competition is helping.
“Mostly some of the lineman. A couple of the lineman have gotten shots,” he said. “We just want to keep them rotating. The key with some of the kids is that if there’s no competition they turn off and don’t get better. You have to tell them that they need to get better, no matter where they are going.”
