First Take

Yuma Sun - - NEWS - By Steven Witucki, copy editor

I’ll never forget the day I looked up and saw beautiful hot air balloons floating over Yuma. I had forgotten that the balloon festival was back.

Life gets busy, and the Colorado River Crossing Balloon Festival is something I haven’t officially been to yet. But next weekend could be my chance.

If you can’t make it to the balloon glow event next Saturday, you might be able to watch the balloons make their morning ascent.

Just be sure to bring a non-perishable food item for admission. The balloons are officially scheduled to go up at West Wetlands Park next Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17 and 18, at sunrise.

Sunrise? But I work nights! I usually have to sleep through the sunrise. If I don’t wake up early enough, there’s a chance I’ll miss the festival again.

What a dilemma. Who will arise first, me or the balloons?
