Shavkat Mirziy­oyev Meets with S. Korean Par­lia­ment Speaker

On Tue­sady, Pres­i­dent of the Repub­lic of Uzbek­istan Shavkat Mirziy­oyev re­ceived the Speaker of the Na­tional Assem­bly of the Repub­lic of Korea Chung Sye-kyun.

Warmly wel­com­ing the guest, the head of our state un­der­scored the es­sen­tial role played by leg­is­la­tures in ce­ment­ing friend­ship and strate­gic part­ner­ship be­tween Uzbek­istan and South Korea, in en­hanc­ing the tra­di­tion­ally close and mul­ti­fac­eted co­op­er­a­tion.

It was noted in par­tic­u­lar that the Repub­lic of Korea is one of Uzbek­istan’s key and re­li­able part­ners. Today, con­tacts are in­ten­sively de­vel­op­ing at var­i­ous lev­els, both in a bi­lat­eral for­mat and within the frame­work of in­ter­na­tional or­ga­ni­za­tions.

Fruit­ful in­ter­ac­tion has been ad­vanc­ing with lead­ing South Korean com­pa­nies and banks on the im­ple­men­ta­tion of pri­or­ity pro­grams de­signed to help the di­ver­si­fi­ca­tion of man­u­fac­tur­ing in­dus­try and mod­ern­iza­tion of in­fra­struc­ture in our coun­try. Cur­rently, the port­fo­lio of joint in­vest­ment projects in var­i­ous sec­tors of the econ­omy ex­ceeds 7 bil­lion US dol­lars.

Bi­lat­eral re­la­tions have been ex­pand­ing in sci­en­tific, tech­ni­cal, cul­tural and hu­man­i­tar­ian spheres, health­care and ed­u­ca­tion, as well as in tourist ex­change.

Dur­ing the meet­ing the sides stressed the mag­ni­tude of fur­ther­ing the part­ner­ship be­tween the par­lia­ments of the two coun­tries and their cor­re­spond­ing com­mit­tees, of en­hanc­ing the ac­tiv­i­ties of par­lia­men­tary friend­ship and co­op­er­a­tion groups, of or­ga­niz­ing reg­u­lar re­cip­ro­cal vis­its and joint events in Uzbek­istan and South Korea.

Par­tic­u­lar at­ten­tion was paid to is­sues of boost­ing the in­ter­ac­tion in pro­mot­ing joint trade, eco­nomic, in­vest­ment, cul­tural and hu­man­i­tar­ian projects, as well as co­op­er­a­tion within the frame­work of in­ter­na­tional in­ter-par­lia­men­tary in­sti­tu­tions.

Speaker of the Na­tional Assem­bly of the Repub­lic of Korea ex­pressed high ac­claim of and support for the new phase of struc­tural re­forms be­ing en­acted in Uzbek­istan within the frame­work of the adopted Devel­op­ment Strat­egy.

Chung Sye-kyun, ex­tend­ing his deep grat­i­tude for the sin­cere wel­come, con­veyed earnest greet­ings and best wishes to the head of our state on be­half of Pres­i­dent of the Repub­lic of Korea Moon Jae-in. The distin­guished guest also noted that the lead­er­ship of South Korea ex­pects a soon­est visit by Pres­i­dent of the Repub­lic of Uzbek­istan to Seoul.

The chair­man of South Korea’s leg­is­la­ture as­sured that by joint ef­forts the par­lia­ments of the two coun­tries will make a prac­ti­cal con­tri­bu­tion to the prepa­ra­tion of the forth­com­ing meet­ings and to the en­hance­ment of bi­lat­eral bonds of strate­gic part­ner­ship.
