Shavkat Mirziyoyev Meets with S. Korean Parliament Speaker
On Tuesady, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Chung Sye-kyun.
Warmly welcoming the guest, the head of our state underscored the essential role played by legislatures in cementing friendship and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and South Korea, in enhancing the traditionally close and multifaceted cooperation.
It was noted in particular that the Republic of Korea is one of Uzbekistan’s key and reliable partners. Today, contacts are intensively developing at various levels, both in a bilateral format and within the framework of international organizations.
Fruitful interaction has been advancing with leading South Korean companies and banks on the implementation of priority programs designed to help the diversification of manufacturing industry and modernization of infrastructure in our country. Currently, the portfolio of joint investment projects in various sectors of the economy exceeds 7 billion US dollars.
Bilateral relations have been expanding in scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian spheres, healthcare and education, as well as in tourist exchange.
During the meeting the sides stressed the magnitude of furthering the partnership between the parliaments of the two countries and their corresponding committees, of enhancing the activities of parliamentary friendship and cooperation groups, of organizing regular reciprocal visits and joint events in Uzbekistan and South Korea.
Particular attention was paid to issues of boosting the interaction in promoting joint trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian projects, as well as cooperation within the framework of international inter-parliamentary institutions.
Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea expressed high acclaim of and support for the new phase of structural reforms being enacted in Uzbekistan within the framework of the adopted Development Strategy.
Chung Sye-kyun, extending his deep gratitude for the sincere welcome, conveyed earnest greetings and best wishes to the head of our state on behalf of President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in. The distinguished guest also noted that the leadership of South Korea expects a soonest visit by President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Seoul.
The chairman of South Korea’s legislature assured that by joint efforts the parliaments of the two countries will make a practical contribution to the preparation of the forthcoming meetings and to the enhancement of bilateral bonds of strategic partnership.
