The nation widely celebrated the Teacher’s and Mentor’s Day on Sunday, October 1.

On the eve of the national holiday, the outstanding pedagogues of Uzbekistan’s educational institutions, scientists, enlightenment activists, as well as representatives of the general public were invited to the capital Tashkent. Meetings, forums and conferences were held to discuss the improvement in the quality of teaching, nurturing the younger generation as worthy successors of our great ancestors.

The festive events culminated in the Turkiston Palace in the heart of Tashkent at a solemn occasion timed to the Teacher’s and Mentor’s Day. The grand meeting was attended by senators, lower house deputies, officials of the ministries of public education, higher and secondary special education, culture, Heroes of Uzbekistan, instructors of higher educational institutions, general schools, academic lyceums and professional colleges, sporting coaches.

The congratulatory message of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the teachers and mentors of the country was read out at the event by the State Advisor to the President Khairiddin Sultanov.

Those who spoke at the occasion noted that the Strategy of Actions outlines priority objectives of the nation for perfecting the education system, erecting new and reconstructing the available educational institutions, expanding the system of preschool education institutions, and radically improving the quality of general secondary education.

Complete provision for the conformity of learning and educational reforms to the goals and aspirations of our people, especially parents, teachers, students, is an important factor in increasing the interest of students in obtaining knowledge, protecting them from various ideological threats. These aspects are manifest in the organization of the 10th grade from the new academic year, creating extensive opportunities for continuing education in school, college or lyceum.

On the basis of legislative acts elaborated and enacted, consistent efforts are undertaken to uplift the quality of education, train highly qualified specialists in accordance with market requirements, expand the network of pre-school educational institutions, and improve their conditions for the comprehensive development of children.

Particular attention is paid to training highly qualified personnel for secondary schools, especially in remote areas, and the use of opportunities for extracurricular studies. The establishment of the Tashkent Regional Pedagogical Institute in Chirchik has become yet another practical step towards schooling the pedagogical staff and the satisfaction of their needs in the field.

The practical proposals put forward by the head of our state at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on the education and upbringing of the younger generation, upholding their rights and interests are another practical evidence of the great attention being paid to youth in our country. Based on analytical and academic survey, these ideas and initiatives boost up the responsibility of our country’s educators for fostering the younger generation.

Under a decree by the President of our country, signed 27 September 2017, a group of particularly distinguished representatives of the education system was awarded honorary titles, national orders and medals.

During the festive event in Turkiston Palace, winners of the contest “The Teacher of the Year”, conducted by the Ministry of Public Education, “The Teacher of Higher Educational Institutions of the Year”, organized by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education, as well as the best teachers of secondary specialized and professional educational institutions were awarded with diplomas and prizes.

At the end of the meeting the participants were presented with a concert program by celebrity musicians and young performers.
