My Fair Meal

Uzbekistan Today (English) - - TODAY IN UZBEKISTAN - Igor Saneyev

The second international festivalcontest, My Favorite Uzbek Meal, has taken place in the Khonbalik farm of the Bostanlyk district in Tashkent region.

Representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in our country, famous chefs, and experts took part in this event organized by the diplomatic service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Association of Cooks of Uzbekistan.

At the opening of the contest, it was noted that Uzbekistan places much attention on the careful preservation of the national traditions and values, further enrichment and development of artisan schools, and wide dissemination of the intangible cultural heritage of our country at the international level. Projects, festivals, demonstrating national traditions and values, the culture of various peoples play an important role in the strengthening of diplomatic, cultural and educational relations between states. The national Uzbek culinary school which has rich traditions has gained wide popularity in the world. And the festival is another confirmation of this.

The contest was conducted in an unusually picturesque place - near the pond where the swans swam surrounded by lush greenery of plants, and not far off the snowy peaks of the mountains. Each embassy presented a wide range of national cuisine and dishes. For example, it was difficult to tear yourself away from the magnificent Ukrainian lard or sharply cooked fish by Chinese chefs, and even more so pass by the amazing and unique French wines.

«This competition is an excellent opportunity to get a close acquaintance with the Uzbek culinary arts and cuisine of other nations», said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to our country Vinod Kumar. “For this festival we have prepared a special stand about Indian cuisine and presented the process of preparing national dishes”.

According to the results of the contest, the representatives of the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan took the first place in the nomination «The best national dish». The Embassy of the State of Palestine became the winner in the nomination «The stand with the best design».

...When the festival was already coming to its end, domestic cookers finally cooked Uzbek pilaf. Well, what is the favorite Uzbek dish without it? And looking, as all the participants of the competition appetite our national culinary heritage, I thought that the answer to this question should not cause any difficulties.

Next year, within the framework of the festival, it is planned to carry out the World Cooking Championship. Well, then Uzbek pilaf, in my opinion, will take another height of recognition and love...
