Uzbekistan’s number one tennis player Denis Istomin has secured the main prize at the international tournament of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) held in China.

In the first match of the tournament, Denis defeated Jan-Lennard Struff from Germany, in the second round - the Russian Karen Khachanov, in the quarter-final the US representative Jared Donaldson, in the semi-final - Yuiti Sugita from Japan and booked a ticket to the finals.

In the final, Istomin faced the Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis. In the first set, losing with a score of 2: 3, Marcos stopped the game and acknowledged defeat. Thus, Denis Istomin became the winner and scored 250 points on the rating of the ATP.

Commenting on the situation, Denis said: “I understand his condition, because I myself had many injuries. I know this feeling, and Marcos and I are good friends - so when I saw how Marcos fell, first of all I rushed to him. Of course, I wanted to win the title, but not in this way. I hope he gets better, and he can hold to the end of the season.

I feel great, but today I felt better than in other matches. It seems to me that now I am in the same condition as I was in Australia at the beginning of the season. My next tournament will be the Challenger in the native Tashkent, and then I will conduct ATP tournaments in Stockholm, Basel and Paris. I will try to finish the season as best as possible.”
