European Film Festival in Nukus
In Nukus, the Festival of European Cinema has been organized for the first time by the delegation of the European Union in Uzbekistan in cooperation with the National Agency Uzbekkino and its regional branch Karakalpakkino.
The films were watched in the Berdakh Karakalpak State Academic Music Theater. All the films were shown in the original language with titles in Russian. In addition, the entrance to all the shows was free.
During the press conference, the Director General of the Uzbekkino Furkat
okirov, the director of Karakalpakkino Bektileu Nizamatdinov and the head of the EU Delegation in Uzbekistan, Ambassador Eduards Stiprais noted that the European Film Festival, organized by the EU since 2013, is a bright symbol of cooperation between Europe and Uzbekistan. However, mostly European films were available to the metropolitan audience.
This year, the EU delegation in Uzbekistan decided to hold a festival in the regions most remote from the center of the republic. Thus, the beginning of a new stage of cultural cooperation between the EU and the Republic of Karakalpakstan is marked. The EU Ambassador Eduards Stiprais expressed special gratitude to the administrations of Uzbekkino, Karakalpakkino, Karakalpakfilm, as well as the Berdakh Karakalpak State Academic Music Theater for their support and cooperation in organizing the festival.
Within the framework of the Festival of European Cinema, Karakalpak viewers could see six feature films, documentaries and animated films produced by five European countries. For the festival in Nukus, the embassies and cultural organizations of Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, Finland and France provided their films. A number of paintings presented at the festival are the owners of prestigious national and international film awards.
The festival opened the family adventure family film of 2015 «Heidi», at the end of which the applause of the audience did not stop for a long time. In total, over 3 thousand people visited the film festival in Nukus.
