An extraordinary conference of the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan has been held in Tashkent.

The conference discussed a number of issues on the implementation of the tasks outlined in the August regulations of the President of our country Shavkat Mirziyoyev “On the establishment of the Public Fund for the Support of Creative Persons of Uzbekistan Ilhom” and “On measures to further improve the activities of the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan”, and also to improve the activities of the Union.

The conference was attended by heads of the territorial branches of the Creative Union of Journalists, senior officials of the country's leading media, creative organizations, and teachers of journalism departments.

The event noted that the largescale reforms being carried out in the country have a positive impact on the development of the mass media. Speakers stressed that the proposals and instructions of the President of our country Shavkat Mirziyoyev, put forward at a meeting with representatives of the creative intelligentsia, marked the beginning of a new era in the history of creative organizations.

From the beginning of the year, the creative union has started practical work on the basis of action plan developed in accordance with the reforms being carried out in the country. The measures to implement the tasks outlined in the Strategy of Action for the five priority areas of the country's development, strengthening cooperation with creative teams, promoting national values, rich historical heritage, supporting young talents, and activating the activities of the Creative Union of Journalists are among these reforms.

On the initiative of the head of our state, with the purpose of supporting the leading creative organizations and their employees, the Friends Club has been formed, and the sponsor of the Creative Union of Journalists of Uzbekistan is the Uzbek Republican Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange. To date, some work has been done in cooperation with the sponsoring organization. For example, 400 million sums were allocated for joint activities to improve the skills of journalists, to stimulate young journalists and veterans, to strengthen the material and technical base of the Creative Union of Journalists, the editorial staff of the “Hurriyat” newspaper, and the National Press Center. In turn, in order to highlight the activities of the Republican Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, press conferences are organized. In the near future, the website of two friendly organizations will start functioning.

The organization of the public fund “Ilhom” and the “Friends Club” create wide opportunities for journalists. It is envisaged that due to these sources creative nights of journalists will be held, the first books of young talented journalists will be published, collections of articles on the nature and significance of ongoing reforms, and creative trips abroad to media representatives will be organized.

Also, problems and shortcomings in the activity of the union, plans for the future were discussed. Now is the moment for active reforms in the country. The most important task for journalists is to work in accordance with these reforms. The conference noted about current shortcomings: some media are slow in publishing actual issues and there are not enough analytical, critical articles in the newspapers. Moreover there is no new approach to design, methods and forms of publication of materials. It is also necessary to increase the skill of journalists in broadly covering the essence and significance of the processes of renewal that are taking place in the country, the adopted normative legal acts on life examples, in a simple and accessible form.

The conference made suggestions and recommendations on further improving the activities of the media and the Creative Union of Journalists in general.
