Cell Tech­nolo­gies Come to Help

Uzbek­istan is be­gin­ning to ac­tively de­velop cel­lu­lar ther­apy – a new di­rec­tion in medicine based on the ap­pli­ca­tion of the re­gen­er­a­tive po­ten­tial of adult stem cells for the treat­ment of a num­ber of se­ri­ous dis­eases, the re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of pa­tients af­ter trauma, and the fight against pre­ma­ture signs of ag­ing.

This fol­lows from the pres­i­den­tial de­cree on ad­di­tional mea­sures to de­velop ba­sic and ap­plied re­search, as well as in­no­va­tive work in the field of hu­man im­munol­ogy and ge­nomics.

The Repub­li­can Sci­en­tific Cen­ter of Im­munol­ogy has been re­named the In­sti­tute of Im­munol­ogy and Hu­man Ge­nomics. The in­sti­tu­tion was trans­ferred from the Min­istry of Health to the Academy of Sciences. In ad­di­tion, branches of this in­sti­tu­tion are be­ing es­tab­lished in Karakalpak­stan, Andi­jan and Kashkadarya re­gions with­out the sta­tus of a cor­po­rate en­tity.

The doc­u­ment ap­proves the pro­gram of ad­di­tional mea­sures for the de­vel­op­ment of fun­da­men­tal and ap­plied re­search, as well as in­no­va­tive work in the field of hu­man im­munol­ogy and ge­nomics. It pro­vides for the de­vel­op­ment of 9 sci­en­tific ar­eas. Par­tic­u­lar at­ten­tion is paid to the de­vel­op­ment of cel­lu­lar tech­nolo­gies. For their de­vel­op­ment a new build­ing will be built in the in­sti­tute. In par­tic­u­lar, it is planned to con­duct ap­plied and sci­en­tific re­search aimed at de­vel­op­ing a cell ther­apy for di­a­betes in chil­dren and adults.

At the in­sti­tute, a spe­cial­ized cen­ter is be­ing set up to be en­gaged in up­grad­ing and re­train­ing spe­cial­ists in the field of hu­man im­munol­ogy and ge­nomics.
