Cell Technologies Come to Help
Uzbekistan is beginning to actively develop cellular therapy – a new direction in medicine based on the application of the regenerative potential of adult stem cells for the treatment of a number of serious diseases, the rehabilitation of patients after trauma, and the fight against premature signs of aging.
This follows from the presidential decree on additional measures to develop basic and applied research, as well as innovative work in the field of human immunology and genomics.
The Republican Scientific Center of Immunology has been renamed the Institute of Immunology and Human Genomics. The institution was transferred from the Ministry of Health to the Academy of Sciences. In addition, branches of this institution are being established in Karakalpakstan, Andijan and Kashkadarya regions without the status of a corporate entity.
The document approves the program of additional measures for the development of fundamental and applied research, as well as innovative work in the field of human immunology and genomics. It provides for the development of 9 scientific areas. Particular attention is paid to the development of cellular technologies. For their development a new building will be built in the institute. In particular, it is planned to conduct applied and scientific research aimed at developing a cell therapy for diabetes in children and adults.
At the institute, a specialized center is being set up to be engaged in upgrading and retraining specialists in the field of human immunology and genomics.
