In recent years, ecotourism and agrotourism have been developing rapidly in the Khiva, Khazarasp, Urgench, Bagat districts, along the Amudarya coast. The diversified farm “Sharifom Shohjahon” of the Bagat district specializes in poultry farming. Since year September, the farm has been implementing projects in agrotourism as an experiment.

“In September 2017, a total of 12 ostriches were brought from a family enterprise in the Ferghana region and an agrotourism zone was organized,” says the chief of the farm Ilhom Vafoev. “Today, more and more local and foreign tourists come here to see these unique birds. Ostriches are adapted to a hot climate, so the natural conditions of our country are suitable for their living and breeding. These are herbivorous birds, we feed them with alfalfa and other suitable feeds. Ostriches for 3-4 years gain 120-150 kilograms in weight.”

Representatives of the regional hokimiyat also visited the farmer and got acquainted with his project, rendered practical assistance in allocating two hectares of area. In this territory it is planned to build special premises for ostriches’ maintenance, to grow fodder crops. In the farm, where now, in addition to ostriches, quail and turkeys are grown, they plan to further diversify the species of birds they nurture.
