To Address Nephrologic Patients’ Concerns
A national ( republican) specialized scientific and practical medical center for nephrology and kidney transplantation has been established, a set of measures has been taken to improve medical care for patients with chronic renal insufficiency.
Nephrology is an area of medicine dealing with kidney diseases. Hemodialysis is a procedure that is often called artificial kidney. In severe forms of chronic renal failure, hemodialysis is vital before a kidney transplant surgery.
It is intended to introduce a mechanism of single electronic register of recording and monitoring patients with chronic renal failure. In the next three months, the hemodialysis equipment will be examined for health and will develop a plan for its repair, replacement and expansion of the network of hemodialysis facilities. The procedure for rendering medical assistance according to the profile of nephrology will be approved, providing for the volume of medical services offered at the republican, regional and district ( city) levels, the standards for equipping the office and the department of nephrology with the identification of functional duties of specialists. Also, the Ministry of Health will ensure the uniformity of attaching patients to receive hemodialysis in the context of national and regional ( local) medical institutions.
On the basis of the Tashkent city nephrological hospital, the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation has been set up. It was decided that the departments of nephrology and hemodialysis of medical organizations of the Ministry of Health constitute now the organizational and methodological regional units of the new center.
Starting from 2019/ 2020 academic year, new directions of graduate courses and clinical residency are opened for majors in “nephrology” and “children’s nephrology”. On the basis of the newly established Center for Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation, the Department of Nephrology, Hemodialysis and Kidney Transplantation will be opened at the Tashkent Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians.
To protect the rights and legitimate interests of persons with chronic renal insufficiency, as well as the implementation of public control over the functioning of hemodialysis service, the NGO “Dialyz Society of Uzbekistan” is created at the recommendation of the Soghlom Avlod Uchun Foundation and the wider public.
The accelerated development of the private sector and publicprivate partnership in the provision of nephrological and hemodialysis care for the population will be a fundamentally new development in these services. In the two- month period, a corresponding road map is expected to be approved.
Another part of the efforts will deal with the organization of local production of supplies, as opposed to imported goods, for hemodialysis.
