20 Artificial Kidney Centers to Boost Medical Services
Within the framework of the International Investment Forum held in the Jizzakh region, the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan inked an agreement on cooperation with the renowned German company VAMs GmbH. The ceremony of signing the document took place with the participation of the Minister of Health Alisher Shadmanov and the managing director of the company Israil Itzhakov. The purpose of this cooperation is the implementation of an investment project in the field of nephrologic and hemodialysis assistance to the population of our country.
It is worth noting that chronic renal failure is a decrease in kidney function. Treatment of such patients in the terminal stage is carried out by only two methods: program hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplantation. Hemodialysis is a procedure that takes on the main function of the kidneys – purification of blood from metabolic products. In Uzbekistan, about 2,600 patients are in the terminal stage of renal failure, and for each of them the availability of hemodialysis is important.
Within the framework of the above-mentioned cooperation, it is envisaged to attract private investments into the healthcare system of the nation, to create an industrial complex for the production of medical goods and pharmaceutical products in the field of nephrology. The existing hemodialysis units will be modernized in the medical institutions of our country and a complete renovation of their medical equipment fleet will be carried out. On the principles of public-private partnership there will be up to 20 new medical clinics for hemodialysis. As a pilot project, it is planned to open an interdistrict hemodialysis center in the city of Jizzakh in 2019. A plant will also be built to produce medical materials for hemodialysis.
The intended volume of investments under this agreement is $ 27 million in the period until 2022.
