Writer Trung Trung Ñænh
After joining the army at 21 in 1968, Trung Trung Ñænh was sent south to Gia Lai Province at the height of the liberation war. Nine years later, he went to work in the Creative Writing Camp in the Fifth Zone. In 1979, he enrolled in the first class of the now- defunct Nguyeãn Du Writing School. In 1983, he became editor of the magazine for the military circle, Vaên Ngheä Quaân Ñoäi ( The Military Literature Art). In 2003, he was demobilised and became Deputy Editor- inChief of the Vaên Ngheä ( Literary Newspaper). Later, he moved to the Writers' Publishing House. After more than 20 years in the army and writing about it, Trung has won many literary prizes in Vieät Nam and in ASEAN. This month Outlook introduces one of his short stories, a slice of the harsh post- war years after 1975.
