Improving education, pet vaccination, and awareness of proper treatment of bites by rabid dogs are among the measures the country plans to eradicate rabies by 2020, delegates told a meeting in northern Phu Tho Province on Friday.

The incidence of rabies has been increasing in Vieät Nam, especially in the northern mountain provinces, according to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

Rabies continues to be the number one killer among epidemics, killing around 100 people a year, mostly due to poor public awareness and low cat and dog vaccination rates.
