RISING COST OF TRAVEL
Airline passengers will pay higher service charges starting in October; experts expect ticket prices to increase as well.
HAØ NOÄI Airport service charges will be increased on October 1, leading industry experts to predict that ticket prices will rise.
Service charges will rise from VNÑ60,000 to VNÑ70,000 for international airports (Noäi Baøi, Taân Sôn Nhaát, Cam Ranh, Phuù Quoác and Ñaø Naüng) and from VNÑ50,000 to VNÑ60,000 for domestic airports such as Phuø Caùt, Caø Mau, Buoân Ma Thuoät and Lieân Khöông. A fee of US$25 per passenger will also be applied at Noäi Baøis newly constructed Terminal 2. Additionally, the charge for freight transport will increase by 10 per cent from $15 to $17 per tonne.
Airline representatives were skeptical that the increase in airport service charges would improve airport service quality.
Moreover, Voõ Huy Cöôøng, Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vieät Nam (CAA), predicted that the additional charges would lead airlines to raise ticket costs. This could discourage passengers from pursuing air travel, airline representatives warned.
Passengers already pay three extra charges: a ticket issuance rate of VNÑ50,000, value-added tax of 10 per cent and a passenger service charge ranging from VNÑ110,000- 120,000 per ticket. The security check charge for national flights is VNÑ10,000 per domestic passenger, VNÑ20,000 per domestic priority passenger and VNÑ32,000 per international passenger.
