Green Party advise govt on monetary policy
By ANNIE ZULU GOVERNMENT must reconsider the monetary and currency policy tools as it presents the 2018 national budget before economic crisis deepens, Green Party president Peter Sinkamba has said.
Mr Sinkamba noted that the monetary and currency policy tools were shrinking the country's economy rapidly.
He also said the tools were sharply triggering a crisis in the banking sector. The Green party leader has since urged Finance Minister Felix Mutati to rethink the policies and consider an overhaul as he presents the 2018 budget, saying they were driving the country into an economic crisis. “We the Greens are extremely alarmed that fanatical monetary and currency policy tools have shrunk the economy, and triggered a crisis in the banking sector: need complete overhaul now before economic crisis deepens. “This is evident from the statistics which show that the economy has shrunk from about US$28billion in 2013 to US$19billion in 2017,” Mr Sinkamba said.
