Kapombo council tackles water blues
JACK MAPAPAYI THE Kabompo district council has drilled 11 boreholes to ease persistent water challenges in the area.
Council chairperson Presley Makayi told the Daily Nation that the local authority was prompted to drill the boreholes because of the water challenges that had continued to dog the district.
Mr Makayi explained that 80 percent of the households in the district had no piped water.
“Yee, as a council I can confirm that we have drilled 11 boreholes just to cushion the water challenges the district is faced with, Mr Makayi said.
He said despite the drilling of the boreholes, there was need to connect the houses to piped water.
“The 11 boreholes are just a temporal measure, a permanent solution is to have all houses connected to piped water, he said.
He appealed to government to release funds to enable the council make available piped water to houses in the area.
And Mr Makayi observed that apart from drilling the boreholes, the council was repairing 25 defunct boreholes in the district.
